What’s your favorite Discovery show? Deadliest Catch and Man vs. Wild often get watched in our household. But I’m going to let you in on a secret: we haven’t had cable for five years. How do we watch our shows? In recent years we have discovered live streaming through our television and our devices. It’s cheaper and much easier than a cable subscription. Here’s how you can cut the cord and live stream your own shows.
Watch Discovery On Hulu Free
First, sign up for Hulu (Hulu Review). You will get a free trial for 7 days. Hulu similar to SlingTV is a live streaming service that has a wide selection of movies and television shows. If you add Showbiz for $8.99, you will double your content. As a result, you’ll always have something excellent to watch when over-the-air shows (such as Chicago Fire and Last Man Standing) aren’t on that particular night.
The thing about cable is for one it is expensive, and then they lock you into a 2 year contract. With Hulu there isn’t a contract requirement, plus you can watch your shows on any device and anywhere in the world. You could be on vacation in Paris, France from your home in Seattle, Washington and still watch Mythbusters. You could be riding a train from Chicago to Denver and watching Deadliest Catch. There are no limits.
Stream The Discovery Channel Live on Playstation Vue
Another option is Playstation Vue (what is playstation Vue?). This is a streaming service offered through Sony. The Vue service charge a monthly fee for the right to stream popular channels like the Discovery channel, Discovery Family and Discovery Life. If you want premium channels like HBO and Showtime, you’ll have to subscribe to the ‘Ultra’ plan.
Similar to that of DirecTV Now— Vue is a streaming service that live streams cable/satellite channels without the huge bill. When you subscribe to any Vue plan, you’ll be automatically enrolled in the 7 day free trial offer. You can cancel anytime within the seven day trial period, and not be charged.
Watch Discovery Family & Discovery Life On DirecTV Now
Another way to stream the Discovery channel is through DirecTV Now, a new streaming service that was launched on November 2016. With DirecTV Now you can watch The Discovery Channel, Discovery Family and Discovery Life.
The cost for the right to stream The Discovery channel starts right aound $30 per month. However if you want Discovery Life, you will need to upgrade your plan to the ‘Go Big’ package, which in is currently set as an introductory fee of $35/month.
Search on Discovery.com For Full Episodes
Also check out discovery.com. Here you will find full, free episodes of your favorite Discovery shows. Likewise, there are smaller clips available that focus on a particular aspect of each show. This keeps viewers enticed and wanting to come back for more content.
The full-length episodes that are available are not entire seasons, of course, but that’s to be expected. If you watch a show regularly, you are not going to need the start of the season. You will have been caught up already.
Watch Short Clips & Previews on Youtube
Discovery also has their own Youtube page, of which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/user/DiscoveryNetworks. They post videos that relate to all of their shows. If there is a particular show that you are looking for, chances are great that you will find it here.
The page is divided by the shows, as well, to make the content easy to find. As far as I can tell, it’s a regularly updated Youtube page. Check here for bonus clips and content of your favorite Discovery show.
All in all, technology is evolving as we become more fast-paced. We are more at our computers, tablets and phones these days then we are at home. Hollywood is starting to take notice and meeting us halfway. If you’re considering canceling your cable, I recommend you test it out. See how much you miss it. You’re soon going to find that you can still watch all the same shows for half the price that you once paid. Live streaming is the way to go and it’s so much better!
